Here are my predictions for UFC 74. Feel free to counter with your predictions or why you think I’m a moron…

  1. Randy Couture vs Gabriel Gonzaga - Couture wins by decision. I can’t see Gonzaga getting the best of Couture. Gonzaga is a tough sucker, though and he presents a lot of matchup problems with his jiujitsu background. Randy loves to be on the ground, but that might not be his best bet here. Tough fight to call, but I can’t pick against Captain America.
  2. Josh Koscheck Vs. Georges St-Pierre - This is so hard… Kos is tough, but I think GSP has got too much for him. If Kos can get him on the ground though, I think he’ll dominate him. Koscheck usually wins because he is a superior athlete; but GSP is probably the only guy in MMA that is genuinely more athletic than Kos (maybe Melvin Guillard). GSP has way better standup than Koscheck, though. I take GSP by split decision.
  3. Roger Huerta vs Alberto Crane - Huerta by KO in the 2nd Round. Easy win over a guy with nothing going but jujitsu. Crane hasn’t even fought MMA in 2 and a half years…
  4. Kurt Pellegrino Vs. Joe Stevenson - Joe Daddy by TKO in the 3rd round. Pelligrino is a tough, aggressive dude, though. It wouldn’t shock me to see him pull the upset over Stevenson.

  5. Patrick Cote Vs. Kendall Grove - I take Cote here. I know Grove is long and lean and he’s moving his way up the ranks, but he’s weak. Cote throws bombs and you’re not gonna knock him out. Tough head, and he’s always good outside the UFC. If he can bring it on the big show like he does outside of it, he’ll win this one easily. Cote by KO in the 2nd.
  6. Renato Sobral Vs. David Heath - I love Sobral. He’s a great fighter that rarely gets the respect he deserves. I don’t know much about Heath, though. Sobral is a classic ham and eggs fighter, and I think he’ll be able to pull it out. But not knowing much about Heath forces me into ignorance… so I’ll just pick Sobral by TKO. 1st round.
  7. Frank Mir Vs. Antoni Hardonk - I’m as excited about this one as any fight on the card. I think Frank Mir has got the potential to be amazing, and had it not been for the motorcycle wreck, I think he would have already been there, and might have held that belt for a little while. His ground game is exceptional. I’ll take Mir by submission in the 2nd round.
