In their first fight, St. Pierre looked great and had Matt Hughes inside his guard with time winding down. He started working for a kimura and Hughes slipped out of the guard, locking up and armbar on the opposite side as the 1st round expired. St. Pierre tapped and was devastated.
By the time the second matchup rolled around, Hughes had regained his mystique and was again “unbeatable.” St. Pierre had lost some respect for Hughes, though, and it showed in the way he entered the fight. What ensued was total domination:
